Anthony Mordi
Anthony Mordi is the Managing Partner at Mordi & Co Solicitors. He obtained a first degree in Fine Arts in 1985 before proceeding to study law. He completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London before joining Lawson Adefope Solicitors in 1998 where he was made a partner in 2001. He remained in this post until co-founding Kaj Mordi & Co in March 2002. The firm later became Mordi & Co in April 2005.
Anthony has many years experience of providing a broad range of specialist advice and has been involved in handling complex, high value and multijurisdictional arbitration and litigation matters. Anthony’s practice spans all areas of criminal law but also includes other related areas of law. He typically acts for the defence in cases ranging from murder and serious sexual offences to complex conspiracies to defraud, money laundering, trading standards and trade mark offences. Anthony has been involved in some of the most serious cases of recent times: his professional expertise, dedication and unwavering commitment to defence work has won him a loyal client base and the Lawyer of the Year Award in 2007.
Anthony is a member of the court and police station duty panels. He has two children and enjoys playing tennis, watching football, formula 1, music and travelling.
Avis Johnson
Avis Johnson is a Partner at Mordi & Co. She studied the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London and qualified as a Solicitor in 2002. She joined Mordi & Co in 2004 and heads the Conveyancing and Family departments. Avis specialises in property, carrying out residential and commercial conveyancing transactions. She has experience of advising clients on a wide range of areas including conveyancing, family law, Immigration, wills and probate. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Avis had a successful career in investment.
Michael Okogwu
Michael is a Partner at Mordi & Co. He obtained a First degree in Foreign Languages in 1989 before emabarking on his legal career. He completed his Legal Practice Course at the London Metropolitan University and joined the firm in 2004.
Michael has continued to build his formidable reputation and has been involved in some of the most serious and high profile cases of recent times. He has built a loyal client base on account of his professional expertise, dedication and unwavering commitment to defence work.
Michael advises and defends in a broad spectrum of criminal cases. He has experience defending prosecutions brought by the CPS and Revenue and Customs, including large scale drug importation, test purchase drug supply operations, allegations of serious violence, historical rape, gang murder and people trafficking. Michael conducts both legal aid and privately funded case.
Fitzgerald Corbin
Fitzgerald Corbin is a Senior Consultant Solicitor who joined the firm in 2013. Fitzgerald has over 44 years experience of providing legal advice. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1980 having completed his Solicitors Qualifying Examination at the College of Law. Fitzgerald also holds a Masters degree in Law from the London School of Economics.
Fitzgerald founded the firm Fitzgerald Corbin & Co which he ran from 1992 until 2009. He has extensive experience in residential and commercial conveyancing as well as wills and probate. In commercial litigation, Fitzgerald has acted in a wide number of disputes for both claimants and defendants in the High Court, Chancery Division and Court of Appeal, negotiating settlements and devising tactics with a view to obtaining the most cost effective remedy for clients. He is experienced in both arbitration and mediation.
Fitzgerald has a keen interest in cricket.
Efuru Obua
Efuru Obua has been a Consultant with Mordi & Co since 2011. She offers considerable experience as a civil litigator with expertise in conveyancing and oil and gas. Efuru is a dual qualified Solicitor of England and Wales, admitted in 1997, and a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Nigeria where she was called to the Bar in 1991. She has practiced for over 25 years, 16 of which have been in the United Kingdom.
Efuru practiced extensively in various firms in London before establishing her own firm, J E Solicitors in Golders Green London in 2003. She resigned from the firm in 2010 to pursue a Master’s degree in Petroleum Law and Policy at the University of Dundee. Efuru also holds a Masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.
As a residential and commercial conveyancing specialist, Efuru builds long-lasting relationships and has a portfolio of returning clients. She works with a range of buyers from first time buyers to those looking to invest in higher value properties. In relation to oil and gas, Efuru is able to advice on compliance with legal and regulatory requirements governing the industry, rendering legal advice on transactional dynamics and liaising with relevant regulatory agencies to ensure clients’ compliance with best global practices
Efuru is the author of Nigerian Content Act 2010 – An Analysis of the Law, published in Nation Newspaper on 26th June 2012 & 3rd July 2012 as well as Petroleum Industry Bill – An Analysis published in Nation Newspaper 11th September – October 2012.
Efuru is a member of the following professional bodies: Law Society of England and Wales; Nigeria Bar Association; International Bar Association; Chartered Institute of Arbitrators London; Energy Institute London; Society of Petroleum Engineers; Black Solicitors Network London; Association of Women Solicitors and the British Nigerian Law Forum.
King Wyn
King Wyn is a Barrister and one of the firm’s Consultants. He is a highly regarded immigration lawyer and advocate. King obtained a law degree from the University of London in 2001 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincolns Inn in 2002.
King advises private clients on a breadth of immigration matters, including civil partnerships, unmarried partners and children and parents of British and EEA nationals as well as asylum applications and appeals and Judicial Review. He has successfully managed applications for students, domestic workers, leave to remain applicants, entry clearance applications and dependency visas in all categories including settlement and applications for British citizenship..
King was the founding partner of Wynnas Law Chambers, from where he practiced between 2003 and 2007. He has managed cases involving deportation and Judicial Review and has developed an extensive knowledge of the Human Rights Act. He is a keen litigator and has represented clients at appeals before the Immigration & Asylum Tribunal.
Khalid Peerbux
Khalid Peerbux is a Consultant Solicitor with Mordi & Co. He obtained his first degree in Physiology at the Universtiy College London in 2003 before proceeding to study Law. He completed his Legal Practice Course in 2006 at the College of Law and then worked at JR Jones in Ealing before joining Mordi & Co in 2008.
He has over 14 years experience of providing a broad range of specialist advice and has been involved in handling complex, high value criminal, family and immigration matters.
Khalid’s specialist areas include Criminal matters such as Murder, Fraud, Proceeds of Crime and cases that involve Mental Health issues. Furthermore Khalid has experience of Advocacy in the Youth and Magistrates Court which includes Bail Applications, Mentions and Trials.
Khalid is a member of Association of Muslim Lawyers and is a member of the Human Rights Sub Committee. Khalid enjoys football, watching sports, reading and going to the cinema. He is fluent in Mauritian Creole and conversational French.
Ukachi Tosin Talabi
Ukachi TosinTalabi is a Consultant Solicitor at Mordi & Co. She is a dual qualified Solicitor with 36 years combined post qualification experience. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 and admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2002. Ukachi specialises in residential and commercial conveyancing. These include, freehold and leasehold properties, equity release, remortgages, lifetime mortgages, right to buy, shared ownership, landlord and tenant and lease extensions.
